Cantautor británico. Quiso ser marino como su padre, pero se convirtió en músico después de escuchar las grabaciones de Elvis Presley. En 1957 formó la banda que se convirtió en The Beatles y en la década de 1960 logró un enorme éxito tocando con el grupo y escribiendo canciones con Paul McCartney. A mediados de la década de 1960 empezó a trabajar en proyectos complementarios en materia de cine y música, en especial con la artista de vanguardia japonesa-estadounidense Yoko Ono (n. 1933), con la que se casó en 1969. Su activismo político y sus ideales sociales se reflejaron en gran parte de la obra solista temprana de Lennon, como el éxito "Imagine,y atrajo la atención del gobierno de EE.UU. que trató de deportarlo. Después de 1975 se retiró de la vida pública; él y Ono retornaron con el álbum Double Fantasy poco antes de su asesinato a manos de un fan desquiciado. Sus hijos, Julian (n. 1963) y Sean (n. 1975), también son músicos.
